Summoned to a beleaguered Western village to drive off a desperado, Paladin meets a young Native American, who's taken a correspondence course in being a Marshal, and plans to install himself as lawman for the tiny town. Paladin is charmed by the sincerity and honesty of the seemingly naive Charley Red Dog, whose grandfather was shot for sport in the hamlet.
